consultancy on site for those in need of Travel Plans -a

Presentation on Control of pollution at fire
incidents
Andy Bowers (Fire & Rescue) gave us a
presentation on the partnership working arrangements between the
Fire Service and the Environment Agency. We were shown a spill
response holdall carried by each appliance, which will supply the
crews with sufficient equipment to contain a reasonable effluent
quantity from an incident. A recent incident close to the River
Hamble was quoted as a typical example of where such partnership
working was evident.
Presentation from the MOD on Energy
Benchmarking
Keeping in line with our group programme, we
then had a presentation from Phil Wheaton on Energy Benchmarking. We
heard about Utility saving mechanisms and each given a copy of the
annual Utility Audit Questionnaire, which is issued out to MOD site
Energy Managers. We were also informed of the Solent Energy &
Environment Management Group, a self-help group who meet monthly in
the Portsmouth area to exchange ideas and promote best practice
amongst business organisations. Phil then shared with the group some
recent successes the MOD had with energy saving showers and radiator
panels.
Presentation on the Fire Service HQ Control
Room
Mike Scott from the Fire Service Control Room
gave us a very interesting talk on response action to emergency
calls. He demonstrated bow information on Hampshire roads and
properties was stored on their databases, this giving the crews
accurate locations to speed response times. We heard about the wide
range of calls received and how crews were deployed to meet
requests. In cases of additional support, we were informed of their
partnership working with neighbouring local authorities.
Group Movements
Alan Johnstone informed us he was leaving
Winchester & Eastleigh NHS Trust and joining Basingstoke &
North Hampshire NHS Trust. However, he wishes to remain with the
group and will encourage Roger Mole, Environmental Manager at
Winchester to join the group on return from his long-term sick
leave. Richard Osborne from the MOD was moving on by the time we
next meet and Mike Barter, Health & Safety Manager at Fire
Service HQ was joining the group.

Maritime & Coastguard Agency, to be held at their HQ in
Southampton on Friday 24th January 2003.
