ONYX ENVIRONMENTAL TRUST BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Hampshire Commercial and Industrial Waste to Resource Project
This bid is made by the Hampshire Natural Resources Trust (HNRT), a
multi-sector ‘not for profit’ company and environmental body, set up
with the aim of achieving the more sustainable use of natural resources
in Hampshire. The Trust links with a wider community based Hampshire
Natural Resources Initiative that involves the business sector, public
authorities, academic institutions and NGOs.
Improving the use of waste as a resource in the Commercial and
Industrial sector has been identified as a key priority. Apart from
major opportunities to improve business efficiency and innovation,
action in this area is seen as a long term means of reducing household
waste volumes requiring disposal by improving resource efficiency in
production and maximising markets for recyclables.
The Hampshire Commercial and Industrial Waste to Resource Project
aims to demonstrate best practice over a county geographic area through
an integrated programme of research, development, demonstration,
education and dissemination. It is conceived as a three year programme
to develop a model that could be rolled out nationally.
Funding for the project in sought in accordance with a concept and
outline programme, the proposal being that the detailed arrangements and
direction of the three year work programme would be determined locally.
The overall project costings are as follows:
| Year 1 |
£ 310,000 |
| Year 2 |
£ 670,000 |
| Year 3 |
£ 675,000 |

| 10% contribution |
£ 165,500 |

However, if the Onyx Environmental Trust were minded to initially
fund focussed elements within the overall Project, then key priorities
for year 1 are set out below (inclusive of project management costs). If
this approach is adopted, it is hoped that the Trust would support bids
for other elements of the programme in future years.
