The 4th Hampshire Water Festival - the best yet !
The rain stayed away from Romsey on Saturday 19 August and the fourth Hampshire Water Festival attracted a crowd of thousands to venues around the market town.
War Memorial Park was flooded with people enjoying the bands, theatre acts, craft workshops, and sampling the food, drink and crafts at the Water Market.
Major exhibitions from the Environment Agency, Southern Water, Ecover, The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust and Hillier Garden Centres were very busy all day – most had sold out of stock and given everything they brought away to a public who were thirsty for water saving advice!
Both Chris Packham’s talk and his guided walk were both full to the brim, as were the swimming lessons with Duncan Goodhew at the Romsey Rapids. Local historian Phoebe Merrick was delighted that over 500 people visited the exhibition on Romsey’s waterways that she had developed for the Festival.
Festival Director Andrew Pitt said ‘The Hampshire Water Partnership was truly thrilled by the turnout at the Festival last Saturday. Feedback from the public has been excellent, and we are very pleased that we have been able to engage thousands of people with water issues while providing an enjoyable day of entertainment and activity.’
‘The combination of great venues, the interest in the event shown by the Romsey community, and the excellent support of the Test Valley Borough Council were the three key ingredients which made last Saturday’s event the best Water Festival ever.’
The Festival is organised by the Hampshire Water Partnership and funded by The Environment Agency, Southern Water, Ecover, Test Valley Borough Council, SEEDA, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, Hampshire County Council, Vitacress and Roke Manor Research Limited.
