The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Sustainable Business Network met at the Winchester Hotel on 15th June. The event, targeted specifically at businesses either interested in or already pursuing sustainable business practices, focused on this occasion on the issue of water.

Current environmental legislation changes by Nicholas Rock of Blake Lapthorn Linnell. Notably the exciting outcome from the recent (17 May) bench mark contaminated land case of
National Grid Gas plc v Environment Agency.

Practical examples of the changes companies can make for both cost savings and reduced environmental impacts, including a fantastic presentation by Dave Hooker of Hillier’s. Hillier’s have reduced their mains water demand to just 4% of their total usage and recycle over 100,000 gallons of water.

The meeting tried out a new format following the presentations which met positive feedback. The group discussed the mornings presentations and the barriers their companies have faced. This was a well received networking opportunity.
Attendance at the Sustainable Business Network is free and new businesses are welcome to attend. As sustainable business is increasingly high on the public agenda now is the ideal time to get involved.
