Help For Sustainable Schools in Hampshire.

On 15 May the DfES launched its online consultation: Sustainable Schools for pupils, communities and the environment, and we encourage all Hampshire schools to log on and complete this (details at end.) A supporting web site was launched on 9 June, with a wealth of information for schools.

Hampshire schools have a head start, having had a chance to contribute their views to the development of this consultation, at a January event in Winchester. Hampshire County Council officers continue to support the emerging national strategy.

The January Sustainable Schools event has also led to a flurry of activity behind the scenes at Hampshire County Council. The Sustainable Schools Forum, a group of officers from several departments, helping schools with a range of sustainability projects, is working with the WWF Pathways project to develop their support for schools. The Forum hopes to provide a more joined up approach to help schools extend sustainability through curriculum, campus and out into the community, through a pilot project starting in the Autumn.

We have our own Sustainable Schools web site with information about the support available and who to contact for help with energy management, recycling, Healthy Schools, School Travel Plans, School Landscape Programme and many other areas, and a helpline for general enquiries about sustainable schools.
