New Recycling & Waste Contracts for Hampshire Public Sector Organisations

Attention all Hampshire County Council offices and schools, other public sector organisations, and County Supplies’ customers in Hampshire!  Would you be interested in separate waste and recyclables collections from your work place?  If so, read on …

Hampshire County Council’s County Supplies, supported by the Natural Resources Initiative and the Education Department, has set up an exciting and groundbreaking waste and recycling contract.  This will enable all schools and other HCC premises, other public sector organisations and County Supplies’ customers across the county, to have their waste and recyclables collected separately, changing a waste problem to a resource opportunity.

The contract will start in April 2005, when mixed newspapers, magazines, paper, cardboard, junk mail, cans and plastic bottles will be accepted in a separate recyclables collection, reflecting and reinforcing Project Integra’s household recycling system.  This is an excellent opportunity for Hampshire County Council to lead by example in a countywide initiative to use resources efficiently and reduce landfill.

Detailed information will be sent to all schools in November, encouraging them to sign up and play a key part in demonstrating their commitment to sustainable resource management to the next generation.  Separating out recyclables will also reduce the financial impact of sharply rising landfill tax over the next few years.  The success of the new dual collection service will depend on achieving a high level of sign-up to the contract. Schools should check their current arrangements now to allow sufficient notice for the termination of existing contracts.

If interested in this contract, schools, public sector organisations and existing County Supplies’ customers in Hampshire are invited to contact Julie Price at County Supplies on 01962 826910, or email julie.price@hants.gov.uk.
