Health & Safety Event at Bacardi-Martini

Free Energy Saving Light bulbs and bicycle powered Gameboys were the order of the day on the 22nd October at Bacardi-Martini in Southampton. Bacardi-Martini decided to celebrate National Health and Safety week this year by inviting support organisations from Hampshire to their Southampton site to raise the profile of heath, safety and the environment to their employees.

the Environment Centre (tEC), also based in Southampton, was one of the support organisations invited along. tEC’s Business Division and the Solent Energy Efficiency Advice Centre were on hand to give information on environmental issues. A Home Energy Check was completed by each willing member of staff at Bacardi-Martini resulting in a report giving advice on how efficient their household is and information on how to save money through energy efficiency. As an added incentive, a free energy saving compact fluorescent light bulb was given to each person completing the Home Energy Check.

Bacardi Martini are members of tEC’s green business club, SIEnA, and so got in touch to ask for help in putting together a roadshow. Anne Canning, Risk Manager at Bacardi Martini said "Bacardi Martini, as a forward thinking company who value their personnel, have used this week to highlight the practical every day measure's that we can all take to ensure our own and other peoples health and safety and the environment within the workplace as well as at home. “

Angela Munn, Senior Energy Advisor says, ‘"It is great to see Bacardi doing their bit for the environment. Together, it is estimated their employees will prevent the equivalent of 25 hot air balloons of greenhouse gases entering the atmosphere this year! A healthier environment is not the only benefit, each employee will find out how they can save up to £200 off their fuel bill this year too through the Home Energy Check report."

If your business would like an energy efficiency roadshow to raise awareness within your work staff, please call the Environment Centre on 02380 336209.
