Material Resources Strategy Workshop 6

The Winchester Guildhall hosted MRS workshop 6, which was an opportunity for stakeholders to discuss a draft overall philosophy and principles  for  managing  resources  in  Hampshire  over  the  period  to 2020. The main topics for discussion were the emerging preferred solutions for unavoidable waste and minerals, and the assessment criteria for, and broad identification of, sites for recycling and unavoidable waste facilities.  There was also an abridged session of this in the evening at the Hampshire County Council offices in Winchester.

Both sessions were a great success as frank and open discussions was held on the above issues enabling the MRS to move to the next stage.  A key outcome was the recognition that a range of new recycling and recovery facilities will be needed if recycling / recovery is to be maximised, use and landfill reduced and net self-sufficiency achieved.

The next stage in the development of the MRS is that a draft document will be produced ready for February 2005, when it will be presented to stakeholders for comment before it is finalised.  The intention is that this document acts as the primary local reference for future work on the Minerals & Waste Development Framework, the Project Integra Municipal Waste Strategy and the Natural Resources Initiative.  An information event is being arranged for the end of January / early February 2005 and as soon as we have finalised a date for this we will post it on our website.

Details of all other workshops and the progress the MRS has been making is detailed on this website. This can be found at: www.mrs-hampshire.org.uk
