Material Resources Strategy - Update

Material Resources Strategy - Next stage begins now !

In September the idea of the Material Resources Strategy (MRS) was launched at Southampton Football Club. The overall vision of one strategy for all material use in Hampshire, Portsmouth and Southampton was overwhelmingly endorsed by the 200 people present.

Further discussions at a workshop in Portsmouth in December produced some more discussion on what the overall vision and aims of the MRS would be, and those that were agreed can be found on the www.mrs-hampshire.org.uk website.

However the really exciting work begins now. The next stage of the MRS is to look in detail at a whole range of process chain issues including Sustainable Design, Retailing, Lifestyle Change, and Procurement. Each of these has a massive impact upon our use of material resources, and all these issues are linked with the work which the NRI team has been carrying out, and reporting upon in this newsletter over the past year.

Once the MRS team has an understanding of the main issues and opportunities which apply across these process chain issues they will be applied across around 10 material specific groups, for example, glass, biomass, composite materials etc, using experts to provide guidance. Detailed discussion on each of these sectors will help to identify where the real opportunities for sustainable material resource use lie.

Both these stages will be discussed a the next MRS workshop which will be held on the 31st March in Aldershot. We will soon be sending out invitations to the stakeholders who have already been involved in the MRS process - however if you have not been involved up to this point there is still time to get involved so contact the NRI team via info@hnri.co.uk

This workshop promises to be critical in developing the future of the material resource use in this area, so if you have in interest please contact us to get involved.
