Commercial & Industrial Waste HWRC Pilot On Tuesday 4th May 2004 Hampshire County Council Waste Management working with one of its management contractors Hopkins Recycling Ltd started a six month trial scheme to allow Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SME's) access to two of Hampshire’s Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs), Alton and Segensworth. A maximum of 50 companies will be able to register to each site and each company will be allowed to deliver all of their waste to the sites no more than twice a week. The trial will be run on a chargeable basis, £60 for the six months. The scheme aims to provide the County Council with information on the types and tonnages of waste produced by SME's and will also tell us about the suitability of the HWRCs for collecting this material. Each waste type brought into the site will be weighed on a simple piece of equipment with the amounts entered onto a ticket. There will be a member of site staff to complete the ticket and ensure that the companies are not are not held up and do not affect the normal running of the site.
We have had a lot of interest in the scheme, mostly from the Alton area, but there are still spaces on the scheme at both sites, particularly Segensworth, and we would welcome more companies to join the trial by contacting Sam Horne on the details below: Sam Horne, Development Assistant Waste Management, Hampshire County Council Tel: 01962 845458 Email: sam.horne@hants.gov.uk |
